Klondike Solitaire — How to play

Klondike Solitaire uses seven tableau columns, a stock, a waste pile and four foundations. This embedded game opens in Draw 1 mode, turning over one stock card at a time. Its controls also provide Draw 3.

Place a face-up card on a tableau card one rank higher and the opposite color: a black 6 can go on a red 7. A valid face-up sequence can move together. Turn over newly uncovered cards; start each foundation with an Ace and build by suit through King.

When no useful tableau move is open, draw from the stock and check the waste pile. Only a King or a face-up sequence led by a King can start an empty column. Win by completing all four foundations from Ace through King.

Klondike Solitaire — Rules

The seven tableau columns start with one through seven cards, with only the top card face up. Build downward by rank and alternate red and black: a red 9 can go on a black 10, not another red 10.

Build each foundation upward in one suit, from Ace to King. The current embed opens in Draw 1 mode and has Draw 1 and Draw 3 controls. Draw 3 turns over three stock cards at a time; only the top waste card can be played.

Only a King can start an empty tableau column. A correctly ordered face-up sequence may move together. The goal is to complete all four foundations.

Klondike Solitaire — Tips and strategy

Prefer moves that turn over a hidden card. A newly exposed card can unlock another sequence and give you information about the deal.

Before drawing again, scan the waste pile and all seven columns. A waste card may unlock a hidden card or help form a useful King-led column.

Keep an empty column available for a King that can expose or organize more cards. Compare your King options before filling the space.

Before moving a low card to a foundation, check whether the tableau still needs that rank. Use Undo to review a move as you learn.
